i’ve been watching the second season of the l word again. i love it so. some of my very favourite things of that season are jenny’s grotesque, surrealistic carnival scenes.
i’ve also been reading rick moody’s demonology & am going to a burlesque circus show tonight.

so of course i HAD to do something with all that twisted carnival-esque inspiration.

enjoy!

extended version in a treasury on etsy.

has been for some days now. i just took the last couple of pictures this afternoon! during that long-awaited perfect ray of sunlight. the weather has been ridiculous.
my shop (& its content) still need a lot of work, but here you are.

Photobucket

& yeah, i ended up only settling on familiar etsy, for now. even though it’s really not that familiar anymore.

go buy! FREE SHIPPING for readers of this blog. just ‘convo’ me on etsy before you place your order, mention it, & i’ll adjust the listing for you.

thank you all for your continued support, i would not be doing this if it wasn’t for you ♥

let me just start by saying that gibbous is my favourite shop ever. it has such a world of its own, which is reflected in the website layout, pictures, descriptions, packaging, even communication with the owner.
& with my renewed interest in recycled/patchworky/’shabby chic’ clothes (& money, yay!), i decided that It Was Time for another gibbous purchase. i obsessively checked their site day after day until they uploaded that product i could not resist. it became this amazing little witchy cape.

Photobucket

as soon as i bought it, the lovely selene gibbous e-mailed me to confirm my purchase & let me know how soon it could be shipped. when it was shipped, she e-mailed me again to let me know when i could expect it. what service!

all in all i received it in a timely fashion. unfortunately i wasn’t home when it arrived & somehow my little brother confused it for something he ordered (he probably wasn’t wearing his glasses) & denied me the pleasure of opening it myself. anyway.
as usual, it looks so much better than in the pictures. it was very well-represented on their website though. & is so soft! & textured! & black! i love it!

Photobucket

it came wrapped in this cute vintage pattern instruction.

such a little work of art, so well constructed. & fits me perfectly. or as perfectly as a cape can fit. i can’t wait to wear this everywhere! what i love the very most about this is how versatile it is.

Photobucket

i know many of you are probably put off by their prices, but trust me, they’re worth it. good service too. both times i’ve bought from gibbous i had a very pleasant overall shopping experience. the only squabble i have is that, if you’re from outside the u.s., you can’t directly buy, but have to e-mail for a shipping quote first. then again, it’s understandable if you don’t have a lot of international customers.

here’s the link to their shop again. go buy things! you’ll love them, i promise.
i’ll probably be heading back there myself entirely too soon. lately they also do clothing make-overs! sounds amazing to me.

a couple of weeks ago i bought this fabulous rosary necklace from sophine giam. i had been looking for a good rosary necklace for days & in her shop i found the perfect one! i didn’t hesitate for a second to buy it. the seller was so lovely & efficient, she shipped my package the very next day.

i was unusually excited about it since it was the first time i bought anything outside of europe/the u.s. on etsy. or, ever, online, now that i think about it…

Photobucket

isn’t that adorable?

Photobucket

i saved these stamps. that’s how excited i was about getting mail from singapore.

Photobucket

then came the unwrapping of my highly anticipated package. my necklace was packaged with such care & eye for detail, it was amazing. i’ve bought quite a lot of handmade the past years & it’s not often that they’re packaged so magnificently.

there’s nothing like a magnificent product with magnificent packaging.

even the little cushion underneath the necklace was wrapped! amazing. as for the necklace itself, excellent quality. i adore it. it’s the perfect necklace. i especially love that it’s made with vintage beads. i’ve worn it almost every time i’ve been out since i got it.

short story even shorter: if you’re looking for good jewelry & good service, go to sophine giam. i give my highest recommendation.

here are some of her wonderful creations for you to consider:

as you loyal blog followers might have noticed, i have recently been reborn to darkness. the 10’s & 30’s of the past century also hold a new fascination over me. this collection started as me leisurely browsing through etsy for things to buy. i unearthed such wonderful items, i had to share. besides, i haven’t done one of these features for far too long.

enjoy!

once upon a time there was a girl who lived all alone in the forest. she used to live with her loving parents. they had a vision of living in harmony with nature, living off the land like thoreau. then they were mauled by bears and died. it had happened when the girl was still very young, so she basically had to raise herself in the wilderness. as a child she was quick to accept these things, didn’t consider them strange. she couldn’t even comprehend the concept of ‘strange.’

her mother had been a ballerina and avid collector of vintage and their cottage was filled with beautiful things. the girl loved delving through these and dressing up in those old clothes. her favourite was a pastel tattered lace dress. especially with the woods surrounding her, it made her feel like a fae. she would often go exploring them all dressed up. if another human ran into her, they might actually think she was a fae. with her pale skin, big, round blue eyes, leaves tangled in her long hair, the magic in her innocence.

she liked to sing with the birds. they were always most friendly and accommodating to her. sometimes she thought she could understand exactly what they were saying. she also liked to climb up in the trees to them. one day she fell and broke her wrist. for lack of anything more suitable she fashioned something out of ribbons and scrap fabric for it. she was still in dire pain, but at least it looked lovely.

among the few things she had learned from her late parents was basic drawing. every day she drew in one of her mothers blank hand-made journals. her mother had shelves and shelves filled with them, she thought they looked oh so charmant. it was the one french word the girl knew. her mother had been fluent in it.

in her simplicity, the girl was the happiest around. she had never learned to be sad or unsatisfied. if you told her “ignorance is bliss,” she wouldn’t know or care what you meant. she wouldn’t know a lot of things. she wouldn’t know what a car is, wouldn’t know about mathematics or shopping centers. yet in her happiness she was probably among the wisest. she had discovered the secret so many people spend their entire lives searching for, the secret that there wasn’t one. it was a conscious choice. and that’s why she lived happily ever after.

ps. if you have an account on etsy, please comment & click on items in the treasury form of this, so they’ll get more exposure.

spent all your money yet? if you haven’t & are on the lookout for good sales at your favourite stores, with their impersonal mass-produced products, why not consider buying handmade instead?

Photobucket

diy products are usually made in very limited amounts &, in their handmade nature, as unique as you!
& to add to that uniqueness, indie designers design according to their own vision & don’t follow the herd
yes, they’re generally more expensive than mass-produced crap, but that’s because a lot of individual attention was paid to each of the products & thus the quality of them is better, especially if the designer is more experienced
wouldn’t you rather have something handmade with love than something made purely to cut a profit?
diy designers really appreciate their customers & often shower you with love, freebies & special sales if you’ve bought something from them
diy designers also go all the way to make sure you’re 100% satisfied with your purchase, with payment options, custom possibilities, return & money-back options etc.
buying handmade is way better for the environment, as mass-production poisons our air, water & soil & is also a major contributor to global warming, while smaller businesses do not
& there are also the obvious advantages of buying through the internet, as most indie designers sell through that medium
