has been for some days now. i just took the last couple of pictures this afternoon! during that long-awaited perfect ray of sunlight. the weather has been ridiculous.
my shop (& its content) still need a lot of work, but here you are.

& yeah, i ended up only settling on familiar etsy, for now. even though it’s really not that familiar anymore.

go buy! FREE SHIPPING for readers of this blog. just ‘convo’ me on etsy before you place your order, mention it, & i’ll adjust the listing for you.

thank you all for your continued support, i would not be doing this if it wasn’t for you ♥

yes, i am opening up my shop again. i had set myself a deadline for some weeks ago, but SO MANY things kept going wrong. i won’t even get into that. also, if i have a private deadline it’s likelier that i’ll keep pushing it. so here’s an official announcement! maraleopard clothing will be back in business at the end of the week. start getting excited! & putting money aside!

i’m still on the fence about etsy or artfire though. on one hand, i already know etsy. other people already know me on etsy. i have feedback on etsy. etsy has a nice, clean layout. on the other hand, artfire seems to have a lot more advantages, even if you have to pay a regular fee. but because of the regular fee, you never have to pay for listings or EVER RE-LIST PRODUCTS. or maybe i’ll just do both & never re-list anything on etsy, until that shop is empty. in fact, i’ll probably do both.

on to the clothes.

i only have three new pieces so far, two of which took me forever. it’s kind of funny, i was working on this whole professional design concept & trying to sketch as much different variations of things in a coherent collection before sewing anything. then it drove me crazy & i went back to my old method of buying fabric willynilly & then letting them whisper to me what they wanted to be. if it ain’t broke…

i don’t have detail shots of them yet, so bear with me.

this skirt is my favourite! i really want to make another version of it for myself. i might make different versions in different sizes for my shop as well. it’s so fun & flattering & comfortable &, as opposed to similar skirts you’d find in the commercial shops, it has POCKETS & is lined.

(the blouse will be for sale, skirt is by obsequies)

i wanted to do something more-ish with a pattern. something with more emphasis on the cut of a garment & not so much the pretty fabric used to create it. of course i drew the pattern from scratch. i wanted it to be more flared from the waist down (although it could be that the flare i meant would show on someone with normal-sized hips), but overall i quite like how it turned out. it’s a pretty basic, but still very fun & girlie blouse. i will definitely make this in more colours & sizes. and/or offer it as a standard custom sized piece.

(it’s not supposed to fold at the side, that’s ’cause there was something wrong with the zipper & i pinned the dress closed instead. i’ll take a new shot of the back when that’s fixed.)

& here we’re back to emphasis on pretty fabric. i just couldn’t help myself when i saw this GORGEOUS fabric in the store. i knew at once that it had to become a swing dress, without too much distractions. so that’s what i made. i also drew an entirely new & improved pattern for the top of this. the entire dress is lined, has the mandatory pockets & a cute mismatched button detail at the front (that you can’t really see in these pictures, i apologize). it has a scattering of hand-stitched scraps too, which looks really nice with the pattern of the fabric.

my clothes have changed quite a lot since my fashion design course, haven’t they? for the better.

i would love to hear your opinions on these! but thanks for reading/looking anyway.

around this time last year i decided to march down to the kamer van koophandel & get my little business registered. it cost a whole bunch for someone who barely earned anything & i have since needed to deal with that pesky tax thing & obnoxious unwanted advertising people who will insist on calling you instead of e-mailing, but it made me legit.

unofficially, my shop has been open for 22 months.

in this past year i’ve added eleven new items (i think), gotten six orders (two of which were this week! ♥), one first from someone not living in america, been featured in creepy queen magazine (with a swanky photoshoot to boot) & became part of the now called attack of the craft etsy street team (which i unintentionally neglect way too much).

jesus christ, i need to make more time for this.

anyway, thank you all so much for supporting me, whether you’re doing it by actually buying my clothes, featuring them in treasuries/blogs, giving me feedback on them, whatever. you’re awesome! i appreciate it either way ♥

20% off everything in my shop tonight! go buy! & don’t forget to check out the other etsy shops above running a tnt sale!

& speaking of handmade goodness, there’s an awesome giveaway (FREE & nearly effortless!) going on at whatthecraft.com until the 6th.

go enter! you know you want to.
& if you’re interested in making/reconstructing clothes at all, you’ll probably want to look around the rest of the site too.

so, i’m in fashion school now. this week a teacher asked if any of us were bloggers. i tentatively raised my hand. & decided that i really should resurrect this thing. as much time as i don’t have. i’m not sure yet if i’ll continue with my old regular segments or do more spontaneous posts. i kind of love the idea of spontaneous posts. what do you think? speaking of, thank you so much for still checking my blog! my stats page was nowhere near as sad as i expected it to be.

here are some things i’ve sewn lately:

my jeans from last year got unbearably baggy. & i really wanted some kind of sleeveless jean jacket/vest. so i reconstructed it. i LOVE how it turned out. it was nice & easy to make too. i used a pre-made burda pattern for this one. it was one of those super rare occasions. the only other things i’ve ever used pre-made patterns for are an over-bust corset, a pair of pants, a button-up shirt, a hoop skirt & one other vest like this.

this is what it looked like before:

it had been very comfortable, for a while.

another reconstruction. reconstructed from a wednesday 13 t-shirt attempted reconstruction to a faux motorcycle jacket. that poor ruined shirt had been sitting on my to-fix pile for, what? nearly two years? then i saw the murderdolls two weeks ago (in germany! it was ah-maaah-ziiiiiing) & in that murderdolls/wednesday’s-bands-in-general mood i thought the time was ripe to save it.
this hoodie was very much inspired by angrygirl gear. i love her work. i made this a little roomier than usual (& with nice warm fleece), because i wanted just one comfortable non-fitted hoodie.

& that’s almost all i’ve sewn since that last dress. it’s ridiculous. otherwise i’ve only resized a few things & made a totally plain pink racerback top. hopefully i’ll get to do more this weekend.

thanks, as always, for looking!

p.s. for those of you who may have noticed & were wondering about my now empty shops, yes, they’ll absolutely be restocked. soonish. & customs are back open! (help a poor student out here)

no, i am not back with regular blogging. i am sorry. that thing i’m writing just keeps becoming more and more work. i had a self-imposed deadline of having it out on september 7th. i’m not sure if i’ll make it.
& i’m kind of having a hard time writing where i am right now. & generally going nuts(er) in these same old depressing surroundings. i NEED to get away. that’s where the sale part comes in. EVERYTHING HALF OFF IN MY SHOP UNTIL THURSDAY JULY 8TH. please, please, PLEASE buy something. i have absolutely no other source of income. you’d be saving my life. & getting a pretty damn awesome piece of clothing in return :]
oh, & gift certificates & friend discounts don’t count in this sale.

love you!

i’ve been thinking

& i think it’ll be best if i take a little break from blogging & most other internet things. could be as long as a month. maybe one & a half. i’m sorry! it’s just that i’ve become so utterly absorbed with that little novel i’ve been writing (i don’t know if it’s actually worth all this trouble just yet) & i can’t really concentrate on much of anything else. better to take an official break than this half-assed thing i’ve been doing.
i finished the first draft yesterday. it’s about 60.000 words & will undoubtedly become more when i go back for the horrendous task of editing. which i will later this week.

i’ll miss you!

oh, & custom orders are closed until further notice. not including any you may already have contacted me for.
